Ursulines in Thailand

A congregation of religious women dedicated to education in the spirit of Saint Angela Merici
หนึ่งร้อยปีอุร์สุลินในประเทศไทย

From Brescia to the soil of Thailand

The Ursulines began in 1532 through Saint Angela Merici, an Italian woman who saw the importance of educating women and young people. The movement spread throughout Europe and came together as Ursulines of the Roman Union (Thailand) In 1900

In 1923 Bishop Perros, head of the Vicariate of Siam, invited the congregation to help in missionary work. Four Sisters travelled from Marseilles and reached Thailand on 25 November 1924, beginning their work at Kalawar Church in the Talat Noi area before the mission spread to schools and community houses throughout the country.

Our patron saints

Models for the congregation and for every member

Saint Angela Merici

Foundress of the Ursulines, 1532

An Italian woman who began gathering young women to teach the faith and serve the poor, growing into one of the most widespread congregations of women religious dedicated to education.

Angela saw the worth of every woman, and teaches us the courage to begin anew.

Saint Ursula

Patron saint of the congregation

A courageous woman of the early Christian era. The Ursulines chose her as patron from their very beginning, and it is from her that the name Ursulines comes.

Ursula is a model of courage and of standing firm in one's faith.

St. Marie / Mary of the Incarnation

The congregation's first woman missionary in Canada

A French woman who pioneered the congregation’s mission in Canada. She entered the Ursulines in 1631 and gave 33 years of her life to the Church there, until her death at the age of 73.

“Will you be mine?” - and Mary answered, “With joy.”
